The WEDDING DAY
Emilie and Stephen’s Wedding Day started at Hôtel Château de La Chèvre d’Or where they both got ready in adjoining rooms, allowing me to move between the two to get some great preparation moments. The couple also had gifts and letters for each other, which gave me some extra audio to use in their film. We then moved on to the stunning Église Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur church in the historic centre of Nice for a lovely and personal ceremony with the couples Priest from back in the US.
After a full Catholic ceremony I then took a ride with the couple in their picture perfect classic car up into the hills above Nice for a few breathtaking couple shots, before travelling back along the coast to Eze and the Hôtel Château de La Chèvre d’Or. After a drinks reception looking out over the Mediterranean Sea as the sun set over Nice in the distance, the couple and their intimate wedding party sat down for dinner followed by some tear-jerking speeches from close family.
A live roaming band then started off the evening entertainment which included an impromptu first dance by the couple as well as cutting their (delicious) wedding cake.
It was a joy to spend time with Emilie, Stephen and their families as they were such a warm and welcoming group of people- intimate weddings in stunning and historical locations are my favourite type of weddings and suit my style so I knew this would be a wedding day I would want to share. My WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHY APPROACH
My main aim as a wedding videographer is to produce cinematic, yet authentic, mementos of a wedding day. I want them to be stylish, filled with all the emotions of the day while being infused with a classic cinema flair, which I always have in the back of my mind when choosing which lens to use in a certain moment, how to frame a shot, the sounds and music I will use to tell that part of the story and thinking always about the edit.
The French Riviera is a perfect backdrop for my work as it is oozing with old-world romance and suits my classic Hollywood style of filming, so I find that the sort of couples who are drawn to the location are drawn to the sort of wedding videography I am offering.
I make sure my films are as cinematic as possible, and what I mean by that is I use every tool and technique at my disposal, from the filming style on the wedding day, to the editing and colour grading techniques afterwards, to create a piece of work that feels like a mini-movie, like a short piece of classic cinema, with a proper beginning middle and end, establishing people, place and your story as elegantly as possible, woven together with music I choose carefully for each project.
Most importantly though, I use equipment and a filming style on the day that allows me to capture these moments without leaving a heavy footprint on the day- I use very minimal equipment, similar to a photographer, and avoid stage managing the day in any way because the most important element of making a great film is authentic moments and emotions and the only way to achieve these is allow them to happen naturally, unhindered by over posing/staging and manufacturing the events.
