Shanice and Stephen | Deer Park Country House, UK
It was already great to be shooting weddings again after a long hiatus, but this was made doubly so by getting to share the weekend with a couple so obviously meant for each other.
Despite a reduced number of guests, Shanice and Stephen’s day was filled with so much love and laughter, and I was spoilt for choice when it came to moments to use in their film. I chose to use Shanice’s highly emotional reading during the ceremony, Stephen’s reading of his wife-to-be’s letter in the morning and some of Stephen’s heartfelt speech to tell the story of their day, along with a powerful moment in the ceremony when the couple re-enacted a broom jumping ceremony.
In true UK style, an unexpected rain shower fell during the outside ceremony, which made it a little challenging to film, but I think the result actually gives the ceremony an extra degree of gravitas.
Thankfully the sun shone all afternoon and the photographer and I were spoilt with golden light in the evening, which made this already natural and photogenic pair shine during their portrait session.
It is always an honour to be chosen to be part of a couples day and to capture it for them, but never more so than during this difficult time, when as a supplier you are taking up a precious space on the limited guest list.
I believe it is also a time when video has never been more vital, when so many cannot attend and will look to the film, not to relive the day, but as a way to experience it for the very first time.
Please enjoy!
